The Crossroads JOBTEC series of programs, which is designed for high school and college age youth, is a comprehensive job-skills development course that incorporates pre-employment and work maturity components that exceeds the established training requirements of the Department of Labor. JOBTEC contains more than 50 hours of classroom material and contains hundreds of learning activities that support the 11 required Department of Labor competencies.
Each competency has been divided into several indicators that break the learning process down into manageable steps. Pre-tests and post-tests are administered to program participants after each of the learning activities to ensure they have learned all the skills required in each indicator. This highly structured process of skill development allows program participants to fully explore and gain confidence in their ability to actually practice and apply the competency skills in a working environment. JTPA programs, jails, prisons, probation departments and schools throughout the country have adopted this program.
During the Crossroads JOBTEC program, participants will:
- Begin to make career choices by using current job labor market information.
- Learn how to search for jobs that match their capabilities/interests.
- Learn how to prepare resumes and job applications.
- Focus on the personal appearance and personal responsibility aspects required of maintaining a job.
- Practice interviewing and receive feedback
- Set and attain worthwhile goals.
- Identify ways to positively increase self-image.
