Parenting is a difficult job, even in the best of circumstances. Most people learn how to parent from watching their parents, who learned from their parents, and so on. Many of the skills that have been passed on are less than adequate, especially in today's world of increasing outside influences. For those who were raised in dysfunctional households, the cycle of dysfunction often continues.
The Crossroads Parenting program helps parents determine the reasons why their children are misbehaving, and teaches parenting based on consequences for actions. Participants are taught how to counteract negative behaviors using methods that are non-threatening and effective, and that build a sense of responsibility for one's actions in the child's mind.
There are two levels of classwork. Level 2 is intended for parents who have successfully completed Level 1 but have on-going child behavioral problems in the home. Level 2 Parenting provides an opportunity for continued learning and practice of parenting skills.
During NCTI's Parenting program, participants will:
- Identify and understand their needs as a parent.
- Understand the process of changing negative behavior in children and motivating positive behavior.
- Reflect on their behavior through NCTI's "Personal Awareness Journaling".
- Discover how children's attitudes affect their behavior.
- Learn how to take better control of their family.
- Develop an action plan for becoming a better parent.
