The Truancy Level 1 program helps youth understand the relevance of school and prompts them to set concrete goals for graduation. They learn skills that are necessary to be successful in school. They explore the effects today's choices have on their future. The techniques of setting and reaching goals are also taught to assist youth in becoming successful in school.
There is also an elementary curriculum for younger students. It is activity-based to meet the learning needs and styles of younger students. Students identify what they enjoy about attending school. They also identify the obstacles they face in attending school regularly and develop a plan to overcome those obstacles.
The last hour of all of the Truancy seminars is a joint session for parents and youth to review why school is important to the youth.
During the Crossroads Level 1 Truancy program, participants will:
- Explore and practice using resources that help one finish school.
- Understand how success in school translates to success in work and in life.
- Gain the skills needed to succeed in school and in life.
- Create a personal vision of a future career.
- Learn how choices made today affect their future.
