Bridging the Generation Gaps

In the 8th century BC, Hesiod wrote, "I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words." Clearly, people have always worried about the future in the hands of the next generation.

And it's no different today. Currently, organizations have a work force with unprecedented generational diversity. Any work force may have Veterans, Baby Boomers, Generation Xers and Generation Nexters, all encompassing different value systems, work habits and ethics, working side by side.

Gen Xers and Nexters may view something that's important to a Veteran or Baby Boomer as outdated or irrelevant. Conversely, older generations must contend with youth cultures they cannot or choose not to understand. In reality, each generation has much to teach and to offer the others.

NCTI's enlightening workshop, Generations at Work, explores the characteristics of the four generations and the challenges in effectively communicating with, motivating and supervising all four.

During the Generations at Work workshop, participants will:

  • Learn key characteristics and values of the four generations.
  • Learn how to communicate with each generation in the most effective manner.
  • Understand what motivates each generation, and why.
  • Develop effective supervision strategies for each of the different generations.
