Limericks

Objective
To meet other participants in an entertaining and engaging way. To energize the group and encourage teamwork.

Props
Limericks or poems or sayings that consist of only five lines; Index cards with one line of each limerick or poem or saying written on each card (Five cards for each limerick or poem or saying).

Procedure
Gather a number of limericks or poems or sayings that consist of only five lines (Sample Limericks follow the activity instructions.).

Write one line of each limerick or poem or saying on an index card. Repeat this process for each line of the limerick or poem or saying.

Randomly distribute cards to the participants.
Instruct the participants to move around the room and find the people who have the other four lines to the limerick, poem, or saying.

When the group of five is formed, have them introduce themselves and develop an activity to illustrate their limerick, poem or activity.

Use items such as the following to process the activity.

How easy was it to find the four other members of your group?
Did anyone take charge of the activity to make it easier?
Was their leadership useful?
Did any of you ignore those trying to take charge?
Why or why not?Who was frustrated by the activity?
Why or why not?Did you learn anything about yourself or others by doing this activity? If yes, what?
